The Supply Chain Symposium addresses aspects of operations which seem distant now, but in 3 - 5 years will be standard in large parts of industry. The day traverses concepts and projects which seem far off enough now to not address internally yet, but which won’t be avoidable for much longer.

Leading practitioners will guide the dialogue with subject experts to bring pragmatic means of engaging usefully with what seems to be of definite importance, if sometime down the road.

Shaping the NZ supply chain approach to people & culture, sustainability and digital technologies is what the Supply Chain Symposium is about, led by the industry itself.



The purpose of this event is to consider what innovations are coming to the supply chain industry in the next five years. Our symposium is a day about concepts, strategy, but largely focused on what is soon to be readily accepted, tangible innovations to the supply chain.

The audience for the symposium are those who consider long range perspective and the strategic intent of a business. Inevitably, this includes the most senior management or ownership. If that's you, we look forward to seeing you there.

There are three themes for the day; sustainability, people & culture, and technology. Each topic is presented by leading figures in their respective fields, people who are genuinely forging viable paths to the horizon of what we currently consider possible. Each has a pedigree in thought leadership and action on the ground.

The outcome sought from the event is that participants remain engaged with the issues covered and draw their own thinking and organisations into the dialogue. This will be achieved by enrolling participants into project groups during the event which will continue after the event. These project teams will be led by the relevant lead presenter from the day and are designed to deepen the learnings from the dialogue and to allow transferable ‘out-takes’ back to the businesses and the nation’s economy. Coupled with this will be a sustained communications plan reaching from prior to well beyond the event.

DR barbara nebel | sustainability

Barbara’s passion is to enable organisations to succeed sustainably. As CEO of thinkstep Australasia, a locally owned business, she often describes her job as a translator. Translating sustainability into traditional business language. Together with her team she delivers a full range of sustainability services from strategy and materiality assessments through to detailed Life Cycle Assessments and Cradle to Cradle® projects.

As the convenor for the working group on carbon for Standards New Zealand she contributed significantly to the development of international standards for carbon footprinting. In her role as President of the Life Cycle Association New Zealand (LCANZ), Barbara initiated the Australasian EPD Programme. She serves on several Technical Advisory Groups, is a Certified LCA Practitioner and an associate editor for the International Journal of LCA. Barbara is also a judge of the Banksia Sustainability Awards.

Originally from Germany, she has been in New Zealand since 2004 and still has not managed to visit every hut in the Tararuas.

Cherie tirikatene | People & culture

Cherie Tirikatene (Ngāi Tahu)  is CEO of SEED NZ and the founder of Te Kukupa. Former CEO of BIZview and General Manager of Pentech Communications Ltd. Cherie is passionate about Maori and Pacific Island ICT development which was one of the main drivers for the Te Kukupa platform which is to encourage rangatahi into this sector.

Cherie is also the Director of Finance and Commercial for Mana Labs Limited who hold a special interest in education and scientific research, Mana Labs partners with a wide variety of organisations that serve the health, well-being, personal development, and employment prospects of community members.

Cherie is a passionate advocate for iwi, hapu and marae based development and self-determination. She can see the potential in the rangatahi she engages with and actively encourages their participation in ICT as a vehicle to deliver on their future desires.

Cherie enjoys working alongside others, brokering new relationships, collaboration and delivering value where it matters most, which is to the people.



Lauren Salisbury | Technology

Lauren has recently returned to NZ after 20 years in the world’s largest technology markets, commercialising technology across multiple industries where the patterns of emerging technology and business models are converging.    

Lauren has deep experience as an executive, independent director and advisor in established organisations looking to harness physical industrial and human assets with emerging technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mobility.  Prior to returning to NZ, Lauren was a partner in Momenta Partners, as an Investor (with a portfolio of 16 early stage technology), and Advisor across North America and Europe. Prior to this, as head of Innovation for global supply chain company Brambles, Lauren stimulated innovation across the sector with the world’s first connected pallet in 2011, whilst driving a culture of innovation across 50 countries, and 15k people.

With extensive experience across supply chain, from startups to large multinationals, Lauren brings a unique perspective on how technology and data is enabling industry boundaries to shift, and therefore offering not only accelerated learnings but new commercial opportunities for the transport and logistics industry.  

Now back in NZ, Lauren works with CEO’s and Boards across multiple sectors to realise the untapped potential and possibility in NZ organisations adopting some of these world’s best and cutting-edge practices and business models.
